The OSP Designer is responsible for the survey, drafting, design, implementation and maintenance of the OSP network design via the OSP Insight software.
Specific Job Duties:
Works in concert with the field team and project management team to secure site information to facilitate the new FTTx design including utility poles, hand hole placement, splitter/terminal cabinet locations, fiber distribution, etc.
Creates an underground or aerial infrastructure design that supports the contracted services and maps it out in OSP Insight software including splice documentation, patch panel connectivity and all other pertinent details Works with design contractors to facilitate drafting of new design including the initial design layout, monitoring of the process and verifying the final product meets the expectations of the contract.
Manages all system design files and performs regular audits verifying document accuracy and organizes files per company policy.
Reviews system drawings for accuracy, completeness and quality for both internally and externally created maps.
Creates permit drawings, utility schematics and as-built drawings.
Prepare and submit permit packages, including encroachment and specialty permits (city, county, state, local municipalities, property specific, etc.
) Updates all maps when field changes occur to maintain an accurate database for all fiber system maps.
Generates bill of materials (BOM) for completed design files to assist the project management team and the construction process.
Prepares and interprets electronic and hard copy drawings, surveys, field notes and source documents.
Produces complete link loss budgets and calculates laser values to support the specific system needs Minimum Job Requirements:
High school diploma required.
Bachelor's degree or other equivalent certifications a plus.
3-5 years' experience with outside plant design/drafting required.
Highly skilled in fiber optic and HFC design and associated design tools.
Thorough understanding of OSP Insight FTTx design software as well as MS VISIO.
Excellent knowledge of complete suite of Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of easements, right-of-way, and permit documenting is preferred.
Visual design skills are a strong plus.
Competency in design methodology, process and metrics.
Experience in designing and/or constructing telecommunications fiber networks a must.
Acute attention to detail and the ability to think creatively and strategically are required.
